STOP NUCLEAR SUBSIDIES

DEADLINE FOR IMPORTANT CONSULTATION RESPONSE - 18th JUNE 2010
In March the Government launched a consultation with a series of
proposals on setting a fixed price for waste and spent fuel
disposal from new build.
The proposals which, if they go unchallenged, will allow the
nuclear industry to enter into deals which could see massive
taxpayer subsidies for waste disposal as 'fixing' the price
effectively caps the costs. Any cost over runs will come from
the public purse.
The current Government has said it will not allow subsidies for
new build - this is an ideal opportunity to encourage it to
prevent subsidies for the disposal of wastes from new reactors.
The consultation only came out 2 days before the election. If
you don't know about it's hardly surprising as it was buried
with so much other pre-election news.
To help, we've put together a briefing which explains the issues
and suggests some responses to the questions in the
consultation. This is attached. It would be great if you or your
organisation can make a response on this consultation.
If you want to know something about the industry lobby on this
issue - see the Guardian article from yesterday

| Design for Ardrossan Beach Pavilion?
Architects have unveiled the winning design in a competition for
a new Beach Pavilion in Ardrossan, with Cooper Architects
providing the new look building.
The competition was run by RIAS Consultancy on behalf of the
Irvine Bay Regeneration company.
The building is described as: "Providing outdoor seating, cafe
and public toilet facilities, the pavilion will provide a new
focal point and beacon on the majestic sweeping bay.
"The form of the building is both dynamic and practical, with a
zinc clad envelope extending towards the sea to provide natural
shelter and solar shading, whilst also capturing and framing the
wonderful sea views in a huge picture window."
